:D Howdy ,

Some clubs have long range single shot rifle and long range lever in both pistol and rifle caliber . So there is another reason to buy more guns .

LEVER RIFLE

Heyya Caleath

The rifle you described will work just fine.  I would recommend though that you consider tang rear sight and front globe.  My lever rifle for long rang is a marlin 336 in 38-55.  I tried shooting it with the standard buckhorn rear and brass front sight at 200 yards.

Groups were 10-12 inches.  (100 yard groups were 1 1/2" for five shots)  I did not feel this was accurate enough for me.  I will be installing the tang and globe from marble in the near future.  Also if you consider that kind of sighting system it may be important to you to have a tang sight that is adjustable for not only elevation but windage as well.

I also know that part of my problem at 200 yards and further may be related to my old eyes.  The tang sights seem to help with that because of the configuration.

When you guys talk about "Long range", what kind of ranges are you talking about.  Is it mostly limited to 200 yards...is there some SASS rule that limites it...or do some clubs have the facilities to go longer?

"Long Range" is usually what ever the club can accommodate.  Some times as little as 75 yds to 350 yds or more if they have the space

The longest long range match that I personally have seen was about 250 yds.
I jave heard of 700 yd matches out west where there is a lot of room.
By the way, the matches that I have seen do NOT tell you the distance.
The intent is to have you take 2 or 3 sighting shots and then blast awy.
Frequently targets will be set at odd distances like 175 yds or 225 yds.
Over the years I have invested most of my income in old whiskey and young women.
The remainder I just wasted.
