Ruger Bisley Initial Impressions
« on: December 17, 2004, 02:04:08 PM »
Well, I just bought me a Ruger Bisley in 22LR.
I wanted something I could "shoot the snot out of". I have other larger calibers, but I like the 22 because you can shoot a lot more for a lot less money.
It's been a while since I bought a Ruger. And even longer since I had a single action revolver. The last single action Ruger I had was just not good. Crappy accuracy and lots of lead spitting around the cylinder.
This Bisley though looks really nice. I was a little disappointed when it said Single Six on the frame though, and not Bisley. I'm sure it is supposed to be that way on the 22LR Bisleys. Fit and finish is an A+ on this one. It has the tightest fit I've ever seen. A lot better than the Single Six I had. Of course, I had to go inside and look too.. Once inside I was surprised. Things were fairly smooth. Just a couple little places. They are gone now :-)
I have not shot this revolver yet. But I do look forward to it. Based on how the barrel looks-especially the crown area, this one should shoot some nice groups if I do my part. It's nice to see that Ruger made this one right.
I don't feel at all bad about the money I spent on it. If it doesn't shoot right, I will just send it to them to look at it. But I have a good feeling about this one. Good, bad, or whatever I am keeping this one for the long haul. I bought this one looking for the long haul, something I could shoot and not worry about it breaking, whether it be mechanically or the bank with ammo for it. Seems I met my goal. It looks so good I am ashamed to dirty it up shooting it. hahaha
I've had some bad luck with guns in general here lately, and it's good to see myself choosing the right weapons again, instead of the clunkers I have been dealing with(Para Ordnance Para Carry 1911, Springfield Armory Champion 1911, etc).
Ruger sure has their act together, at least on this one they did. I just wished I had the money to buy me a Bisley in 357 or 44!
Pick you one up if you are thinking about it. If it is anything like mine, you will really like it.

Good deal!  Those little Bisleys are nice.  While the .22 Bileys say "Single Six" on the frame, the larger caliber Bisleys say "Blackhawk" on thier frames.  They simply mark the frames as the parent model so to speak.  Got 2 and maybe a 3rd Bisley on the way.  I like 'em.  Hope you enjoy yours.  Curious as to how it shoots for you.  :-)

I have a lovely .45 Colt Ruger Bisley in stainless.  It's a great 50 yard shooter!  I haven't really had a chance to work it out, but with factory bulk ammo, it averages under 4" at 50 yards open sights.  As soon as I get my casting set up working, I'm going to work on shrinking that a bit.

I traded my SRH for a 22 Bisley last summer.  I just gave up on the big bore revolvers and always wanted a 22 Bisley even though I already had a Single Six.  Mine shoots good and is lots of fun.  I now have the Bisley in 22lr and keep the 22 mag cylinder on my Single Six.

:cb2: I bought a .22 Bisley on a last minute decision. Went in to buy something else, and on the way to the cash register . . . it called to me. Actually it yelled. It was love at first shot. Then the .44 Bisley was next. Then another. Then a Vaquero Bisley (or is that Bisley Vaquero?) in .44. Then a couple of Blackhawk Convertibles. Got two more non-Ruger SAs to get. (Maybe three more.) But my SA addiction all started with that first .22 Bisley.

I'm sure, you'll have that .357 or .44 Bisley before too long!

I guess after all this time I should learn not to judge a book by its cover. haha.
I was able to shoot the Bisley today. I'll make a seperate post about it, because I need some help with it. It wasn't all bad, see the post about it.
