S.B.,
Hello again, I am using a 45 cal-260 grain Nosler Partition in a Nosler sabot for whitetail and muley's. They do an outstanding job. The affection for Nosler bullets is a hold over from the many many years of centerfire hunting elk and deer. I do shoot Hornady's for recreation and target practice.
The only problem I have had with them is at a really close range they get in and out of the deer pretty fast, (the partition does not allow them to slow down a lot when passing through small bones and tissue, but the hollow point and the turning copper sure do the job on the way through)but they leave such a mess inside the chest cavity - the animal is dead but sometimes they manage to run 40/50 yards - moving to a slower bullet or shooting at a longer range would help that situation but i want to be able to take those 150 yard shots also - although I really don't know why 9 out 10 shoots are under 50.
I am loading 100 grains of t7-2f loose, generating about 1800 fps with 1975 fpe out of my A&H or the 26" Remington. At 200 yards I am down -8.42" - 1290fpe/926fpe. The gun is sighted dead on at 140 yards up 2" @ a 100.
To tell you the truth I am going to use that same load in your Hawkin - less powder but just as deadly @ 150 during ML deer season. During our late ML season for elk we can not use 209's, no scopes and must have an exposed breech - So your fifty will allow me to shoot a .458 (45/70) 300 grain Nosler in an MMP sabot. That will work just fine on elk.
Hope you enjoy that new Omega
