Varmint bullets for .243 with 1 in 9.25 inch twist
« on: December 18, 2004, 09:06:10 AM »
I expect this barrel would be most accurate with longer, heavier bullets. What is the lightest bullet that could be used with good accuracy?

lilabner,

The twist rate in both of my .243 Win. and my .240 Weatherby are 1-10" and I know my accuracy starts to drop off with any bullet under 85 grains.  A 75 grain will over the groups enough to make hitting ground squirrels at 200 yards questionable.  I imagine a 1-9.25” twist would be even worse.  I would try the Nosler 80 gr. Ballistic Tip Varmint, the Barnes 72 gr. Varminator, the 80 & 85 gr. Sierra Varminter or the Hornady 87 gr. V-Max(my favorite for varmints).  Hope this helped you.  Lawdog
