? on the 209x45 muzzleloading barrel

If you have a 209x45 would you kindly post the barrel diameter at the muzzle?  I have a 209x50 and would like a 209x45 if it is also smaller in diameter (lighter weight).  My 209x50 measures 0.885" at the muzzle.  Thanks for your help.

I  have both the 45 and 50 cal  Encore M/L barrels. They both measure 0.885" at the muzzle. My 45 cal and the two 50 cals Encore's  I have will shoot 1 to 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards.  :D

Thanks Redhawk1 that's what I needed to know.  My 209x50 is also doing 1.5" groups at 100 yards.  I appreciate your help.

I put my Encore 209x45 barrel on a lathe and contured it down to.680 at the muzzle. This along with a custm stock and a Leupold 1.75x6 gives me a all up weight of 7lbs. and its a sweet looking piece that handles great!

I know several people that have them and they all shot just fine. Like most muzzleloaders you need to find what works best in your gun. Just because you could not get them to shoot well does not make them bad. Mine shoot just as good as my 50 cals.  :grin:

I got a shelf full of different .45 cal. bullets that I tested in these things. The first wouldn't shoot none of them even the one t/c told me to shoot and the second barrel I couldn't test but very few because you couldn't get the da$$ things down the barrel.

Thanks Ebjonnes, that's what I had in mind also.  How far forward of the breech did you begin the taper?  Also how did it work out at the screw holes?  Still enough thread left?

Gitzit, I started the contour 5in. from the breech.I had to make new forearm mounting studs, but had plenty of thread left in the factory holes. The barrel is clean,( no ramrod thimbels) and I carry a 3 piece rod in my pack.

I have to agree with you completely.  I have a 209x.50 that is a prima donna and shoots lousy.  I spent two days at the range with going through different loads and it still shot lousy.  I sent back to the factory because I thought it had a tight spot and they said no.  The bullet still stops half way down the barrel and it takes two men and a boy to get it down the rest of the way.  I went out and bought a NEF for $159.99 and it shot anything I put in the barrel, from 240 grs to 444 gr bullets.   :roll:

You figure, $159.99 and it drives tacks or $650 and can't hit the broad side of a barn?  Which one would you want to take into the woods?   :wink:

I wanted a 209x45 barrel for my Contender, a year and a half ago.  I tired of waiting for the G2, and ordered a custom 25" barrel, from David Van Horn. It is as smooth as butter when I slide a Powerbelt in, and when it is dirty, the patches run as smooth as any barrel I have ever had. It is also a great shooter.  People buy custom barrels for various reasons, I wanted to avoid problems.   I knew the early Encore barrels were junk, and I feared when the G2 was ready, it would be the same.  It appears they are not as bad as the original Encore, but I will continue to add to my Russ Carpenter, Bullbery, Van Horn Carbine barrels.  I have a T/C Super 14 barrel that is a shooter, and a 22 Match barrel that is also.

It sure is a shame that one has to go to a third party to get the parts to make this gun work.  I give up on that scenario and will go to the guys that know how to make guns.  For the money you pay, you could get a nice Sako, Kimber, or Browning.  

I love my Contenders, they are fine shooting handguns.  You can keep the Encore and make excuses for what you had to do to make it shoot.  I give up on trying.     :roll:

No excuses here!! It shoots MOA, no muss, no fuss, no misfires! Just an evergrowing pile of venison to it's credit.  No its not traditional, but when meat needs to be made, this is one hell of a go-to gun. Sorry for your bad experiences though, but as we all know well, any mass produced item is bound to have some degree inconsistency. I would still rate T/C's quality and customer service at the top of any list. Maybe not "the" best but certainly second to none.  Happy holidays  :D

And a Happy Holiday to you friend.  

I will be going into the woods hopefully in the am.  I am waiting to have my truck fixed and will go to the mountains after I get it back.  I will be using my hand cannons on this trip.  The S&W 629 and the Ruger Blackhawk Hunter will be tested.  They are both fine shooters and will bring home the meat if given the chance.   :wink:

Man I'm jealous...My season ended on the 22nd. Now all I can do is focus on winter .22 league. Not bad, but still not even close to hunting. :roll:
