Nikon Monarch/ Elite 4200 varmint scopes
« on: December 19, 2004, 06:10:26 PM »
Interested/ still undecided in either of these or any others in this price range for a varmint scope 6-20 something. Have done some research and the Elite is criticized for lack of eye relief and the Nikon seems to be getting clear and bright comments. Also, how much difference would the 44obj on the Nikon vs 40 obj on the Elite make? Is the extra magnifcation on the Elite much of an advantage over the Nikon? Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't let the eye relief issue hold me up on the Elite, it is listed as 3.3" and the Nikon is listed as 3.1"-3.5", not enough difference to worry about, if any, I'd say they were pretty much equal.

I agree with quicktoo, there is not much difference between the 2, but I do think that the Nikon is slightly brighter and clearer than the 4200.  But the 4200's rainguard feature is a plus if you are planning on hunting in some nasty weather.

As usual, quickdtoo and Jon are right on the money.

All I can add is that I own several of both brands, most of which I bought from the opticzone, and they are both excellent.  You can't go wrong with either.
