Skinning a coyote...
« on: December 20, 2004, 04:03:17 AM »
Last Saturday, I shot a really big coyote with my TC Black Diamond .50 caliber while hunting deer. I was hoping for a deer but I was shocked to see a big coyote ( it turns out there were the remains of a button buck he may have killed near my stand0

Anyways. I would like to have the hide made into a small rug. I have skinned out small game as well as deer and a moose. I never did a coyote and I don't want to mess it up.

Any advice? I wonder if I should let the taxidermist do the job.. Thanks

Thank you for the advice. It looks pretty simple. I think I will take my sweet old time in skinning the animal out. I don't want to make any mistakes.

just a tip once you skin and flesh it. get some salt and salt the skin side. if it is cold just let it sit for a week or so to draw all the moisture out. then you can order a tanning kit from cabelas called LUTAN-F. it has everything you need to make the rug. and trust me it works good i just got done tanning 2 coyotes tonite. i have had great luck with coyotes this week i shoot 1 last monday that had a black face like a racoon (i'm getting it mounted). then i shoot 2 wednesday morning when it was 17degrees outside. i didnt mind the cold when i saw them
