put a handi in .30-'06 on short term layaway today ...

... couldn't go for the 45-70. this is a new production handi (NU serial number). trigger is ever so sweet, crisp and light. don't know if it's ejector or extractor - and don't care. it's got brown laminated stocks, which look real nice. are such stocks a new feature under marlin influence, along with the good triggers? $219.65 including tax. i am pleased. now if only my sons, daughter and wife will conspire to pay it out this week. i paid $100 down.
hint. hint. hint.

Good choice. I don't think you can go wrong with a 30-06, especially in a handi

i had one 10 years ago or so. it shot well. shouldn't have traded it off. but this new one, i suspect, will be much better what with that sweet trigger. i'll hunt the rest of the season with factory ammo. but i'll probably work on handloads over the summer, figuring .308 win or 300 savage equivalent loads with whatever bullet seems to shoot best. i'm gonna bet it's the 165 hornady spire point flat base. but we'll see.

I carry a Handi in 06 all winter, and when I'm on the motorcycle during the summer.  I have mine sighted in for 300 yards.  I use three bullets exclusively, the 180gr Nosler Partition, the 165gr Sierra spire-point boat-tail, and the Speer 125gr TNT.  I worked up loads with the 180 I use IMR-4350, with the 165 I use IMR-3031, and with the 125 I use reloader #7.  So far this year I have shot a Caribou, a Moose, three wolves, and one red fox.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
