I postponed the purchase of a set of handi rifles.  I was waiting for a handi in .500 SW and i was going to order a .243 stainless barrel.

i was seduced by the Savage 12BVSS.  I ordered one this morning in .243, 580 + tx.

It was tough to do, especially if i calculate the 'handi coefficient'.  i could of gotten two handi's with an extra barrel for each, nearly...

I have a Savage model 16 stainless, laminated stock 300 WSM. It is accurate. You'll like the Savage. They are a good gun. They are kinda like a Handi. Most of the people I know who have Remington and Winchester really bash the Savage rifle. Enjoy your gun when it gets here.

Thanks BBF.  It was a toss up between models.  Savage is really making good products these days.  This 12 will have tough competition with my Tikka in .308, but i think both are great additions to any rifle shooters stable (in addition to a PILE of handi rifles, of course   )

Dollar for dollar Savage probably makes the best product for the money.
I have one Savage 110 in 30/06 and have killed probably  25 to 30 deer in the last 10 or 11 years. May I suggest a Sightron scope to put on top of that new shooter of yours. Again dollar for dollar a great value. Or maybe
a Bushnell elite 3200 that line of scopes is hard to beat for a budget minded hunter. Congrats on tht new gun, Enjoy!!!!

I'm with TX, Dollar for dollar you can't go wrong with the Savage. :money:     I'm not really partial to any make of rifle, I don't care if it cost $100 or $1000 , I just like guns that SHOOT. But my go to gun for deer is a 110
  .270 with a 3200 Elite on top.

Nothing wrong with getting a Savage.
My go to gun right now is a 116 weather warrior in 7mm STW. Haven't found any factory ammo it won't shoot MOA.
Now that you got it out of your system go get the Handi's.

I have a 12FLVSS in 223 that will shoot .25-.30 groups if I do my part.  It's just too darn heavy with that varminter stock I put on it.

most of those Savage rifles are great shooters right out of the box and their new trigger is very good.you can now have a very very light SAFE trigger with your new savage if you want it that way.

YOU DID ORDER A NEW RIFLE WITH THAT NEW TRIGGER?didnt you?

Diddo, nothing wrong with the Savage I shot sub 1" with my 110 in 30-06. Then a gunsmith buddy volentered to work it over. Pillar bedded, trigger job, free floated, jeweled, ect. Now it shoots sub 1" with a little better trigger.

Thanks for the encouragement folks!   Now i am really PUMPED to get this gun in hand.  Should be here tomorrow or Thursday.  :)

Now i am ordering a new dewey rod with brushes.  i've noticed Hoppe's makes a carbon fiber rod for about half the price as the dewey.  Any comments on that little unit?

You have got to be kidding!   Around here that much money will buy you a Remington SS rifle. The Savage rifle claim to fame is CHEAP and most claim they will shoot altho the two I've tried sure didn't. But for the same money as a Remington? No way Jose. The last new Remington 700 I bought recently was the new CDL in .35 Whelen. I paid $579 out the door total. That included tax.

i've read lots of performance reports for the savage 12bvss in 22-250 and they were outstanding.  0.25" groups!

As far as outshooting a remington, who knows.  my shooting buddy has a remington 700 BDL in 6mm with tapered varmint barrel.  it routinely shoots .4" at 100yds.  I'd be happy with that kind of performance from this new 243 savage.  I don't think 580 for a target rifle is a lot to pay.  The 12bvss is on a laminated stock, and all metal parts are stainless.  in addition, the barrel is fluted with a nice recessed crown topping it.

Heck, my best friend has a .303 enfield action on a target stock with a match grade sporter barrel that shoots <0.5" groups all day and night with the cheap factory ammo available for it.  He paid next to nothing for the components and made the gun himself (other than the work on the action to sporterize it).

I had a husquavarna 6.5 x 55 that would shoot 1.25 groups all day long with open sights.

In essence, there are lots of nice guns out there...

I do know i'd put my tikka against your remington sporter any day of the year.    it cost me 420 out the door.  So $$ per inch of group are really low for this gun!   :)
