Are Encore rifles legal in California.

I know the pistols don't pass the handgun safety reguirements.

But can I buy a TC rifle?

They are legal to own. The problem is getting them into the state. If you can find one to buy from someone in state(through a dealer) it is no problem. Check with a local dealer and see if they can order you a RIFLE, it might work. Good luck!!!!!

I live in California and have for over 50 years.

You can buy an Encore rifle in California and it is legal. I have purchased two in the past year and I have buddies that have purchased 4 or more Encore Rifles. Most of the purchases are at three different local dealers.

What you will run into is an occasional Dealer that is ill informed about the actual law. Or they have been living on the edge of the law and ATF has been on their backs, so they are too cautious and will not sell anything with Thompson name. It is not illegal, but, then again they have personal reasons for not doing so.

If you want to purchase a new factory Encore or Contender or G2 pistol, you have a problem. The safety ruling only applied to "Handguns". Thompson told California to stick their safety rules and tests up their western ledge and they would not submit their guns for the tests.
