Carl Zeiss Jena binoculars
« on: December 20, 2004, 12:26:28 PM »
I found a pair of Carl Zeiss Jena binoculars in a pawn shop and they looked to be in very good condition so I bought them for $90.00. They are small and seem to have very sharp glass in them. I want to buy another pair for my father but I can't seem to locate them for sale anywhere. The only marking on them is in two places. On the front it says

Made In Germany

and on the back it says

NOTAREM CARL ZEISS JENA 8X32B.

Can anyone tell me anything about these or have any idea where I can get another pair?

IDK how you got them, but that may have been the deal of the century!!

I know they are compact binos, but still even those sell for $300+

I dont think you will be able to find another pair like that for that price!! JMHO.

Well I knew that they were a deal as the surly pawn shop owner didn't know what they were. I realize that new ones will cost more than $90.00 but I am trying to find out how much more. The Pawn shop guy said the Jena thing made the Ziess name less valuable? I don't think he had a clue what he was talking about.

I have an older pair of 10x42 binos that say Aus Jena notarem on them, and they are not armored.  they do have great optics though, and I used them for years until I bought some Leica's and gave those to my son to use.  I understand they were made in the Zeiss factory after the "wall"  fell.  I know they continue to serve us well...very good glass and sharp.

They are good binoculars but very old technology. Even the absolute best from those days are not a match for mid priced binos of today. Still for the price they will work well.
