price check on Arisaka's t99 and t2
« on: December 20, 2004, 02:10:39 PM »
Hello,

I have two Arisaka rifles I'm hoping to get a reasonable price check on. I'll do my best to describe these rifles.

1. type 99 S# 989## I think Kokura arsenal- help??

Bolt matches receiver has airplane sights and cleaning rod stub (rod hole is very short). No monopod?, dust cover, sling or bayonet.

The Mum has an "X" though it. Best I can tell all esle looks great. Wood is a two piece stock redish with a few knick dents, and a couple fingernail gouges. I would still say nice shape over all. Bluing is is real nice some rust freckling showing on top of receiver and tang area. This should come clean with some care. It has a chrome lined barrel? with Strong rifling. I haven't shot it but it all seems to function.
No extra holes I can see.

Next is the big sin a Type 2 paratrooper that has been butchered.  S# 7451 Nagoya arsenal

Lets start with the good. Perfect mum, bolt matches barrel and both receiver sections. Barreling looks good chrome lined no extra holes.
Action appears to function fine.

Now the bad Front sight has been modified "wings" ground off. I've seen these at numrich's sight for like $8 but I'm unsure how hard it would be to replace. No airplane wings for rear sight. No rod, mono, bayo, cover.

Sin #2 both stocks have been modified the buttstock might be repairable however it looks thin from over sanding.
The orig. buttplate has been removed and replaced with plastic and holes filled in. The fore stock has been heavily modified. Sanded and cut see pics.

Also the take down bolt is a little vice-gripped but matches. Lastly I'm not sure but the texture of the top tang area doesn't match the texture of the rest of the gun.
It could have been ground???

Any more info please ask. I'm not looking to retire on these rifle just a fair asking price to post on the net. I've searched the auction sights and prices range $150-400 on the T99
I realize if the para was not butchered i'd be worth a ton. But what do I ask for a butchered piece???

Locally the shops offered me $70 for both. I did mention if any come in to grab them for me and I left.

Any help would be appreciated. I have pics at the attached sight http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/norville/index.shtml

Thanks

HANG ON TO THEM!
It is a shame that "BUBBA" got his
file and hacksaw to that Para!
The other looks pretty good though!
Those rifles are not too popular yet but
I do not think it will be long.  I have noticed
a jump in prices on them in the last few years.
I looked for a T38 for over a decade before
I found one that had not been chopped up.
Needless to say I now own that one. Unless you
simply must have the money for them, I would
not sell them. They would be a really good start
for a Military Turn-Bolt Collection!
