Western Folder Questions
« on: December 21, 2004, 04:30:13 AM »
What can folks tell me about a Western folder I own.

This is a knife that my grandfather gave me nearly 30 years ago.

It's a large two bladed hunting folder.

Is it any good? Blade steel quality?

Thanks for any help.

Not much of a description; makes it hard to say much about it.  Western Cutlery closed down business probably around 10 years ago.  Their assests and tooling were bought by Camillus cutlery, and they still reproduce some of the Western designs.  Might look at their website to see if there's one similar to it.  A friend of mine has several Western knives that he brings to me to sharpen before deer season; most of them are REAL old.  Best I can guess on the steel is it's most likely 1095 carbon; since that was pretty much the standard carbon steel used(and still used) in those days.
