A next step re Bellesiles fiasco
« on: January 31, 2003, 11:44:17 AM »
Just received my American Riflemand for 2003.  On p 77 "Bellesiles' Bancroft Prize ..." the magazine relates how Bellesiles is finally paying the price for his poor scholarship - GOOD, FINALLY TRUTH WON A ROUND!!!

BUT:  Shouldn't the Columbia Univ. board of trustees be reprimanded  or at least apologize for doing such a poor job of reviewing and selecting their candidate for the Bancroft award?

Not to make a witch hunt but the trustees DID NOT do their job.  They should never have made the award in the first place. What will they be doing in the future to avoid such embarrassments not to mention wastes of money and scholarly credibility?
