357 & 44 Rossi availability & a one cal handgun/rifl
« on: December 22, 2004, 06:20:38 AM »
:( I was on the Rossi website yesterday and noticed in their rifle selector they show both the 357 and 44 calibers as discontinued.  Can anyone verify this?  What is the availability of these two rifles from NEF and is Remington bringing on a line of single shots?  I'm trying to put together a one caliber hunting combination using the same round.  I think a 357 rifle would need to be a rechambered to 357 Max to meet CO hunting rules of 550 ft/lbs energy at 50 yds.  I will show my lack of knowledge in asking how I can determine the energy at a set distance except manufacturers data.  357 components would be useful because I already load for that caliber.

A lead FNGC 250 gr from Beartooth with an inital velocity of 1200 fps (actually clocked 1198 @ 15') has 525 ft lbs energy at 150 yards if the BC is .194.  This was clocked out of a 22" Handi using .357 Mag brass.  It's a very long bullet, but works fine in the Handi chamber when seated in the crimp groove.  I think the BC would be higher than that, but that figure is sufficient for CO purposes.

HAVE A 357 MAX IN H&R I LOVEUM.....USE 357 IN RUGER...AND MAX IN RIFLE.....THE 44..IS PROBALY BETTER if you have 100# deer or bigger...the 445s.mag.is the same as a 44 max...i use that combination also....445 in h&r rifle and 44 in ruger......and if i dont need all the power in the rifles i can just use the mag..in the rifle,or spciels for plinking....JB
