Mod's for a CAS Marlin lever action

Two additions/changes I made on my Marlins is to replace the 2-piece firing pin with a single unit.  This allows lighter springs to be used.  

Also I replaced the safety with a Ludwig model.  This is the one that looks like a screw head on one side and a pin (smooth surface) on the other.  It is level with both sides of the receiver.  

I did this knowing that my Marlins will only be used for CAS.  They are not home defense or used for another other type of shooting.

Another thing you can do is to remove the ejector and rebend the ejector spring, use a pair of needlenose pliars to straighten the bend of the spring, that is take the existing bend out of the spring.

              Black out or turn around the rear sight so the white diamond doesn't show.

              Consider grinding off the wings of the Buck horn rear sight.  The high wings block your vision of the next target to shoot on a sweep.  Honest....it will improve your ability to shoot faster.

             The addition of a leather butt plate cover now keeps my marlin from slipping in my shoulder from shot to shot.  And it looks purty too.

              Consider sending the rifle to Larry Crow for an action job and short stroking.  He really does do magic on marlins.  He did an action job on mine at WR.  The stroke can be shortend between 1 to 1 1/2 inches if you are willing to load schofield for the 45's and 38's (I think) for the 357 rifles.  If you have a .45 colt marlin and don't want to have a different round to load for your rifle (and keep it as a 45 colt) the stroke can still be shortend by 3/8 to 1/2 inch.  The price is about $250 for the action job and short stroke.
