Anyone used a Gonic barrel on a TC contender?
« on: December 22, 2004, 08:48:20 AM »
I hunt with an encore 50 cal., Was thinking of picking up a gonic 45 cal for a contender for my son to hunt with when he turns 14. anyone use one? I'm assuming they ave a breech plug and take 209 primers. Any favorite loads? Any barrels laying around?

I have not heard a lot about gonic arms
but I do have a 14 inch 209x50 M/L/ Barrel made by bullberry and it is a great barrel and a great company.
If you order it now you may have it by the time your son turns 14 :D
thye do take a long time to get you that barrel but the work is top notch.

Several years ago,I purchased a used 16" 45 caliber Gonic barrel. I hunted Connecticut with it( I had a stock on it so it was a very short carbine)

I really didn't like the barrel due to the fact it had a muzzle brake on it which made loading a real hand wrenching experience. It did shoot well, but cleaning the brake was a pain.

I haven't heard much about the Gonic line. He used to have a website but I see that isn't up anymore.

I did see some 50 calibers at a gun show and they were impressive.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it. I haven't found much info online from gonic, and wanted to weigh my options.  keep your powder dry.
