Our new location
« Reply #1 on: December 22, 2004, 06:41:22 PM »
I was looking around and found our new location.  It is interesting over here.  I snowblowed 12" this morning, another 4" this afternoon.  It has been raining, snowing, raining all night.  It just can't decide what to do.

I may have to shovel the roof tomorrow with all the moisture.

I started the snowgo the other day readying to scout for bears.  Damn thing almost ran into the tailgate of the truck.  Throttle cable broke and in full gas.  Second time this has happened in 200 miles on the machine.  Breaks again it is roadtrip to Anchorage time to have the dealer fix it.

I've decided to relent and add some new state forums that folks have been asking for that I was reluctant to add. I figured after I do we'll have enough it makes more sense to put all the state, region and country forums in one place. I'd like to move the Africa but since it has a sponsor banner that Matt would have to move I might run into problems with him. He can see no profit whatsoever in doing such just cuz I decide I wanna change the line up.   Imagine that.  :-D

Are all the old post gonna move too?

Just curious.  And tired of snowblowing.  But at least I bought a 9 hp Honda that throws the stuff 48 feet. :P

Yup. I'll move everyone of them. Just thought I'd give folks a few days to see the note I posted about the move so they won't think we dumped it and will go look for it a bit lower down.

The way I have to do it is to use an Admin function much like the delete function you moderators have. BUT in this case I can either delete all posts or I can move all posts and delete forum. That's what I'll be doing. If it was where I could I'd move them all and leave mine for a few days and then delete but that's not an option.

Will probably wait and do the move/delete thing next week to give everyone time to see what's gonna happen. For now both are functional

More Snow
« Reply #5 on: December 24, 2004, 05:41:05 AM »
Last night it was snowing silver dollar size flakes all night.  It looks like we got another 8-10".  I turned on the outside rear light in the morning to see what is happening and this morning I could see nothing.  A 75-100 spruce tree has bent over right across the rear of the house missing by about a foot. I can't remove the tree till spring as I would have to cut it from on top of the snowgo.

I am going to get some breakfast and then head out to snowblow again.  I will have to move the truck and snowgo to an open area in the yard.  All of the spruce trees are folded up like umbrellas from the heavy snow. For those that have not seen my yard, it is a rain forest of 100-200 foot spruce trees and cottonwoods that are up to 3 foot at the trunk.

Dave,
Your yard is a winter wonderland out your backdoor.  Would certainly make a nice Christmas Card for next year.
Thanks for sharing.

We've got lots of snow, but at least we don't get pounded like you folks in Valdez.  Got my Ski-Doo Tundra stuck for the first time ever.  Last night in the back yard, when I got off I went in to my waist in soft powder.  That's right at four feet of snow in the back yard.

You could send some snow down this way!  Even the hills are bare of snow.  Now we have below freezing (wah, wah!) for the next couple of days.  Well, the deer are not getting hammered, at least.  I heard tell that the bucks are gravitating to the high country again.

small dog warning

DIB, aren't those breezes what one Anchorage TV weather guy used to call small dog warnings?  If you own a small dog tie him down before he blows away.

Small dogs
« Reply #12 on: December 29, 2004, 04:54:02 AM »
No small dogs or cats over here.  Too many eagles! :)

Crap has been hitting the house all night.  Branches, limbs and the wind is just howling out there.  It is the worst I have seen it here in the woods where I am.  Out in the open areas it must be really bad.  When daylight hits today I need to go check the roof out.  Something is up there hitting every once in a while.

20 degree with an 80 mph wind;  is that ont he windchill chart?

Dave, I know you guys get snow a**hole deep to a tall Indian and bear and moose that want to take over your property but, your yard is what God, in his infinite wisdom, , full of the wonder and beauty, has created. I say all this with envy and awe. The pain in the a**  stuff must be God's price for living in such a beautiful place?

If this were true, he'd be a 14 foot tall Indian right about now.

The snow is about even with my shoulders and it took me 2 hours with a 9 h.p. Honda blower tonight to clear the driveway.  I don't have to clean up the dog dodo in the spring since the dog has to go in the driveway.  I just hit the S..T with the blower and it throws it 49 feet.

Luckly.......no neighbors.

But yes, it is Gods country and I love it.
