So what's your favorite Smith & Wesson Model?
« on: December 22, 2004, 10:55:31 PM »
I've carried and owned a lot of Smiths, but my current favorite is a Model 65-5 three-inch, I fawn over this gun so much my honey calls it "Mistress".  I've also owned and loved a 686, might have to get another four incher.  And I really NEED a 642 for pocket carry.  Plus I'm a sucker for a 41 Mag, so a 657 in six inch would be fun.  And a four inch 44 Mag is the perfect do-it-all gun.  So many options, so little cash!   :x

So why do you love one over another, anyway?

686 is my favorite, but that's mostly because I haven't been able to afford a 500 yet. I had a 642; definitely easy to carry but I had a lot of trouble shooting it. My fingers are long, and if I didn't get it in my hand just right, I had a heck of a time firing it. Can't have that for a carry gun, so I sold it. Too bad the 686 is too big for carry; it's very accurate for me. 1" groups offhand at close ranges (10-15yds). Haven't tried it at 25 & 50 off a bench, but I'm looking forward to it.

So many guns, so little time... 8)

Almost everything they've got, except the semi-autos.  I have and have had a bunch of their revolvers and luv'em.  The K-frames seem to fit my hand best but to me there isn't anything like their big ol N-Frames.  My two personal favorites, both factory custom workovers, are a M28/27 with a 3.5' bbl and a M29-2 matt finish with a 4" Mountain Gun bbl.  Then, of course, their are the M38s, the Model 10s, the Model 19, and on and on and on.  Mikey.

My first centerfire handgun was a S&W Model 66.  I took first place in our centerfire pistol league one summer with that gun.  But that was many years ago.  Sold that gun in  1996.
Only other S&W I've owned is the one I have now, a Model 624 44 Special with a 6 1/2 inch barrel.   I traded a Ruger Redhawk 44 Mag even up for this gun and feel I got the better part of the deal.

Probably my 657 Mountain Guns. Then, the 657 four-inch, the 657 3-inch, and the 58 blued.

What a tough question! If I had to pick just one S&W revolver, it would have to be a 4" 686. Every revolver lover should have one.

It's a toss up between a 657 and a 629.
Kinda like which child is your favorite, you love them both.
Then there is the 625 and Model 14 38 Special, the only blued S&W I still have.
Heck.... I love all four.

I could get used to living with a 657 M/G, too.  But, I don't feel any less comfortable with my 629-4 M/G.

My favorites would be 3" and 4" barreled N-frames.
Currently I have a 3" 624 and a 4" 28-2.

A 4" nickeled Model 25-5 would be nice as would a blue 3 1/2" Model 27.

It would have to be my 629-4 M/G. The grips just arrived today, they're Herrett's Jordon Troopers.

Hey Dusty, how about posting some pictures of that gun with the CT lazer sight? I'd be interested in seeing them.
I tried to upload some eye candy (pics) of my 3 1/2" model 27 for RemingtonDave but, couldn't get the pic up on this website?

I appreciate the thought. But it might be easier if you just sell me the gun, no?

Well, I'm in Pontiac, right in the middle of Illinois. About 35 miles north of Bloomington and about 40 miles south of Joliet on I55. Sometimes, on the net, I can be talking to people and not know just how close I actually am to them.

Can't answer that question by naming just one.  Whichever one I'm using is my favorite at the time.  They are all great shooters and seem to be getting better.  S&W went though a bad time, but they bounced back and seem to be making their best guns ever. :D
Best,

Don't know if anyone here is looking for a S&W model 57 but, the local pawn shop has one with a 6" barrel, blue, NOT P&R, in what looks like excellent condition. If anyone is interested, I'll get their phone number and send it to them. Let me know, Steve
