I'm partial to the Model 24 .44 Special and the plain-jane Model 28 .357 Mag. "Highway Patrolman". I also like the old N-frame revolvers with the fixed sights: the 1917 .45 ACP, Model 21s, 23s, etc.

Somerled, If I get a chance in the future, I'll take some pics of a model 28 that I've converted to .44 special and post them.

My favorite S&W is a Model 48 4" .22 magnum.  It's my favorite because it's the only Smith I own.

My favorites are two I wish I still had:

Model 67 Combat Masterpiece, 4" tapered barrel with shrouded ejector rod that had been in the family since I was a kid (my brother used as a partial trade on a GLOCK, of all things).

586, 4" round butt with a matte blue finish.  It was less than 300 dollars new in 1992, and had visible tool marks on the topstrap, but man it was a shooter.  I've been considering offering to buy it back from the guy who bought it from me 10 years ago, even if I take a bath on the deal.

I currently have over 60 smith/wessons with about 15 of these being bottom feeders.

If I can only pick one revolver I pick my 1950 K-38 Target Masterpiece, and then my 5 inch fluted 610, and then my K-22 Cobat Masterpeice, and then.......

If I can only pick one bottom feeder I choose three:
M52-2
M39 steel frame
M41
M3913
M5946

OK I can not count.

I can't believe more model 57's didn't show up. I like the 4" first then the 6".
My secind choice would be my Schofields of 2000.

Pre-M15 Combat Masterpiece, ca. 1955, 4" bbl, with the older style postwar hammer.  The small extra touches in craftsmanship, like the chamfered cylinder, makes it a beautiful piece to behold.

I'm also partial to old I-frames, old 4- and 5-screw models, fixed-sight N-frames, M66s, & M39s.  I have a M28 Highway Patrolman that I like a lot.  Come to think of it, just about any of them except the fairly recent S&Ws revolvers.

S&W K-38 Masterpiece Model 14 target revolver with 6 inch barrel. My Dad gave it to me, and kept the Model 10 with a 4 inch for himself - carries it in a cheapo holdeter riveted to his wheelchair :)

My only Smith is a model 57, 4 incher but I'll never let it go.  Sure wish I'd kept the m 58 I traded for the 57 too.  I'm thinking about a 3 inch 6-7 shot 357 - maybe the 65.   I want to put laser grips on it too.

Since all the Smith's I own are favorites, this one should apply. Model 1926 3rd model .44 special handejector. Yea, I know, it's got the wrong grips on it.

Of course my 686 is great, but my little 908S is alot of fun to shoot.  I enjoy my 629, but that's a mood gun...meaning I've got to be in the mood to enjoy the recoil/kick.

I think I need another 686.  Probably the all-around best 357 I ever shot.
I also like the N-frames, but they're a tad heavy for little old me.  The L-frames are a good compromise between weight and controllablity.  Of course, if I get a 686, then I'll need a 696 to round out the set...... 8)

I have a number of them, so it is difficult to choose just one.  My particular favorites of those I own are:

25-5 w/ 6" bbl 45 Colt
25-2 45 ACP/AR
24-3 44 Spec
610-3  10mm
547 9mm

Have any of you seen the 2005 Smith & Wesson catalog?  From the MSRP that I see in there, if you have any older N-frames, hold onto them as they will surely go up in value.  The prices of the new guns no doubt will drive up the prices for the older ones.  I know they must build into the price the cost of litigation, but whooo-ee.

Tough to choose, I have aquired several.
Model 14-3, 617 6", 686 4", mod 41s 5 1/5HB &7 1/4 & mod 52-2.

If I had to choose just one it would be the 14-3.

Old Griz, actually, they don't feel all that great without the Tyler or Pachmayr grip adapter. .44's do that to me?

My favorite is my S&W Model 28 which I bought while serving in Vietnam in 1966. It is an excellent firing gun,  I did have it re-blued and it came out perfect.

Of course it is to heavy for CCW carry, so I carry my 642-2.

I still carry the same combo I used in the 70's and 80's as an LEO...M10 4" heavy barrel, with ALWAYS M49 in my left front pocket.  Both are loaded with FBI loads, and I have never felt under-gunned.  Why argue with success? :D

My favorite SMITH
« Reply #84 on: June 03, 2005, 09:17:44 PM »
Hello. My all time favorite smith revolver is the 629 classic DX. I like all the 629 classic barrel lenghts. I prefer longer barrels. I shoot an 8 3/8 barreled 629 classic with a bushnel holosight  (new style) for handgun. This is my hunting handgun. I love it. My next 629 classic choice is the 6 1/2 barrel. It is just as accurate. I don't like shorter barrels. I am a hunter and a country boy who now lives in the city. When I get to the country I take my 6 1/2 inch 629 classic. During the entire hunting season it is the 8 3/8 smith that is in the truck at all times.  For a low powered plinker the 686 is an ok toy. But just not enough lead to please me. Someone on this board always says if you are going to make a hole make it a big one. I could not agree more strongly.
