« on: December 23, 2004, 01:25:28 PM »
i want to get my first bow but there are a few problems, and hopefully some answers :? . i am left handed  , i'm 15 yrs and still growing and my draw lenghth is at 30'' now.(what will it be in 2 more yrs :? ) all the bows i've seen in left handed is 30'' max. money is not a problem so if any body knows of a long draw, left handed bow please tell me!!!!!. if i grow a nother 1'' and my bow is a 30'' max will it still shoot OK ????. i checked my draw length by taking a easy draw recurve(25lb) and a long arow blank, pulled to full draw, marked it on the outside of the grip, added 1'' and got 30'' draw lenght. did i do it right?????. if worst comes to worst, is it possible to learn to shoot right handed???. i dont mind waiting a year or even longer before hunting till i'm good enough to hit a whitetail.......
THANKS FOR ALL INFO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've got to many but never enough!!!!

Draw length is different base on the type of release you use or if you are going with fingers. Also according to what you use as a set point on your cheek/ear. Best to go to a shop and have them size you.

Here is a way that should be a bit easier and a litle more exact:
http://www.huntersfriend.com/finalize.htm
Just scroll down a bit to the "Draw Length" section.

Basically the human body "ideally" is proportional in height to arm span.  So you SHOULD be able to take how tall you are and divide by 2.5.  However not everyones arm span is EXACTLY how tall they are, so its better to measure your exact arm span.  Do it a bunch of times and average the numbers you get.
Also, you can check out the Bow Package page they have.  Ive just browsed through a couple of the lower priced packages and found two bows that you can get in LH with one up to 31" and the other 32".  Ive got a Reflex Grizzly on Layaway (which they can do for you) and should have it next month.  So far Ive found these folks to be very professional, and the deals are very decent on the package bows.

oops, I better post the bow package page, huh? http://www.huntersfriend.com/bowpkg2.htm

All I know is is that I just got my brand new PSE. Draw length set @ 28". Feels like there is just a little bit of tention at my grip hand when I draw, like maybe I should have gotten 27", but it's something I'll work around. Just an inference. :D

you can get away easily with a inch or so of being short on the draw lengh but you can't get away with a 1/4 inch to long of a draw lengh. How I set people up is I tell them to make a fist with their opposite hand they draw with and tell them to act like they are drawing a bow and make them put that hand up against a wall then measure from the wall to the knuckles of the anchored hand. When I got back into archery the bow I got was a inch to long and I had a really hard time shooting it then I got a bow with a inch shorter draw lengh and I went from shooting 250-260 to 285-295. Scores wise.
