Magellan Explorist 100, 200, 300 Anybody used one?

I am thinking of buying one for my daughter for backpacking. Does anyone have any firsthand experience with any one of these units?

Thanks, Tac.................... :sniper:

I was looking at the Explorist line at Bass Pro recently. I have not used them, only Garmin, but I would also like to hear from someone who has.

I own the 100 and it does everything I want it to do.  It is my third entry level GPS.  They all worked fine, but each is more refined and does more then the earlier model.
Just remember, they are a wonderful addition to your map and compass= not a replacement. Learn to use them and use them well before you go into the woods.
They are wonderful for finding locations in the dark- something a compass doesn't do at all.  You might have to mark the exact location with reflective tape for the final identification point, but it turns a very difficult job into a simple one.
Like anything else it takes practice, practice, practice.
Everytime I use mine for serious work (going into a heavy wooded area I know nothing about) I take it out and practice with it for an hour or so to make sure it and I are both still working OK.
Most of all it's lots of fun!

A friend just bought the 100 for $59 on sale.  I have had just a few minutes with it but I kind of like it.  I did go to the Magellan Website and take a look at the manual.  I believe my friend got a very good deal when he purchased his.  He bought it as a basic gps for a son.
There is a learning process to effectively using a gps.  Do not throw your compass and map away!
