I do not own an Encore but have been reading much about them via this and other forums where owners has discussed the features, issues, performance, problems, etc.
Apparently there is a barrel taper issue with TC factory barrels that results in scope mounts and scope being tilted downward requiring much vertical adjustment of the scope reticle to compensate for the downward tilt. It has been posted that some scopes do not have enough vertical adjustment and shims have to be placed under the base to achieve a more level mount where less vertical scope adjustment is necessary.
This past weekend I looked at several new Encores and it appeared to me the 209x50 barrel did not have such a taper but the center fire rifle barrels did have a significant taper. The CF rifle barrels have a very short mounting surface for the scope base itself so the front portion of most bases would extend well forward of that flat mounting surface significantly, thus a gap under the front of the base.
Personally I would like to see a more lengthy, straight/flat, non-tapered section of the barrel where as most, if not all, of the scope base would be supported with little or no gap. This would surely be a more stable and less problematic mounting arrangement but would add some weight to the gun.
Maybe some others have a better perspective of this situation and will comment. If not, search this forum and you can find the posts with much discussion about this situation.
Hope this helps, Dave
