Is my bow still "good" after an EXTENDED period of
« on: December 24, 2004, 08:45:29 AM »
I purchased my first bow in 1997.  A Jennings Buckmaster that I liked very well and still own today.  The bow has been stored in a padded case under my bed since about mid 1998.  For one reason, then another, then another, I got away from bow shooting/hunting.  Now I am in position (and a better location) to start back again.  So my questions are: 1) do you think the Jennings will be ok to shoot after being stored so long, and 2) has bow technology moved forward such that I'm better off with a new rig?  My bow has little wear and looks more or less new.  All advice is welcomed and appreciated.

Sould be fine but you should check everything very carefully to insure the soundness of the bow.  If you are not sure, take it to a archery shop and usually for a few dollars they will check it out for you.

You should do the usual maintence before shooting it.  Oil the bearings, wax the string and check every bold and screw.  Check the limbs for cracks too.

Technology has changed but the bow should still work well.
