The old B-Square no gunsmithing mounts fit all S&W K, L and N frame guns. I've used them with complete success on all three. I'm sure somewhere around here I have a few of them in a junk box somewhere from those days. Not sure what all else works but those work OK.

First off I’m in Fayetteville. I have a still in the package unopened white B-Square Smith & Wesson K, L, &N Frame Universal mount. I purchased a handful way back when I first started handgun hunting. I first used one on a 657 and later use a blue one on a 29. They work as intended. If you don’t want to have the top strap drilled and tapped this mount is the only one I know of that will do the job. B-Square still list it on their site as product #42971 SS and 42405 BL for $72.95 and $65.95 plus $7.50 shipping. This is the web address http://www.reliablehost.com/bsquare/revolver_full.html scroll down until you find it. See my post on CLASSIFIED thread.

8)  I had mine drilled and Tapped and installed an EGW mount from Brownells.  Takes standard Ruger Style rings.  If I had it to do over, I would use the Weigand mount.  They are the same price, but I think the Weigand looks a bit classier.  However, I have had no problem with the EGW.  I have used both the Optima and a Simmons Red Dot with this setup.

8) Chris, I agree with you, and have tried to lay my hands on as many quality blue N frames, as possible.  However, this was a M-27 that I have had for a number of years (20+), and I had already had a gunsmith reshape the front sight, and install an orange insert.  So, I figured that a drill & tap job would not further decrease the value.  Besides, I have another M-27 8 3/8" new in the presentation box (not for sale), which had some effect on my decision.

However, you raise an interesting point.  Since I am well past the fifty year mark, I have given a lot of thought to what will become of the firearms I have amassed over the years.  I have one son and daughter who hunt, and two sons who do not.  Although they all enjoy shooting.

What is the sense in preserving collectible items just so they can be auctioned off by uncaring heirs for their pecuniary value ?  I am inclined to believe that vintage cars are to be driven, old wine is to be drank, and fine guns are to be shot.

So, if you see an old Geezer out in the field pursuing a whitetail with a bright blue S & W Magna Classic 1 of 3000, stop over and say Hello.  My apologies for digressing from the main point of this thread.
