rebarreling a 243 Win to 22-250 Rem
« on: December 27, 2004, 12:49:39 PM »
Have a Sako Forester L579 rifle heavy barrel in 243 Win built around 1961(yr). Want to change the barrel to a 22-250 Rem or AI. Other than a different barrel will the magazine, bolt or anything else need to be done to get the 22-250 to cycle properly through the action that was designed for the 243 Win? Trying to avoid any modifications if at all possibe. At a later date may switch back to the 243 Win. Thanks for any help.

There shouldn't be a problem.  The 243 and the 22-250 are both short action rounds.  The 22-250 while a bit short should feed just fine from the action set up for the 243.
