Bisley discontinued?
« on: December 29, 2004, 07:57:09 AM »
I saw a post on another web site saying the Ruger Bisley has been discontinued.  Does anybody have any information about this?

I believe it was the current Vaquero line, including the Bisley-Vaquero, that was discontinued. If I'm not mistaken, the Bisley-SuperBlackhawk is still in production.

The standard Bisley models are not to be discontinued.  The Bisley Hunter is also remaining a cataloged model.  the Bisley Vaqueros are to be no longer produced.  All previous Vaqueros are gone and the New Vaquero models are in (357 and 45lc only currently)  Not saying a Bisley NV will not come later though.

How does that effect the Birds Head?

Not 100% sure but fairly certain they're gone too.  All "old" sized vaqueros are no longer cataloged models so there'll be no more lg frame birdshead models. Also have read that all .32 Single Six models have been taken out of regular production.  That would eliminate the other birdshead models.  there were distributor runs for some lg frame birdsheads a while ago toowhich would've stopped once the contracted run was completed.
too bad, since I really want a blued .32 birdshead.  Guess it should move up the list a bit for a soon-to-buy position.

So, what was the logic behind Ruger's move?  My guess is that, originally, they saw an opportunity in the Cowboy market and only had to do a minor retool to their existing line of frames/guns to accomodate it; but, more recently, they've seen enough of a response in Cowboy-land to warrant a complete separate line, albeit a little smaller-framed to better match the "real" (i.e., original) cowboy guns.  Also, cowboy shooters didn't necessarily need the strength of the larger-framed guns because they weren't shooting hunting-strength loads.

I think what it is, is that they aren't selling like Ruger had hoped. Folks are wanting a big lighter and smaller gun closer to the old Colts. That's what Ruger is now delivering. I saw the first one in the counter today but didn't hold it as it was a vaquaro and fixed sight guns don't do much for me. It was a .45 Colt.
