1-3/16 bore hand gonne
« on: December 29, 2004, 11:39:47 AM »
Roughed out the little hand gonne (coehorn chamber with 1-3/16 bore of 2-1/2" long, OAL 5" x 2" OD.

Neat little handfull.  Haven't put the polish on it yet, nor have I cut the fuse hole.

Bore size is for the (Fuji) 35mm film cannisters (plastic) - smooth sliding fit.  (They're 1-3/16 x 2".)

Next one will be longer and smaller in diameter and will attach to a pole.

Sounds like a neat piece.  How much of a charge? and is there a powder chamber?

No pix yet, it's still a little rough.

Powder chamber is 1/2" diameter x about an inch deep.

Expect to start with one, moving up to two or three .45acp cases full of fffg.  (one to two works well in the golf-ball caliber hand-gonne to get the golf ball out there between 100 and 200 yards.)

The availability of ammo is generally one of first considerations of caliber.

With the hand-gonne the problem is not being able to see what one's shot, so it's definately a team sport.

Yeah, Lee 1966, Walmart usually does have a ton of those little 35M/M empty film cannisters but there are no more aluminum ones, where I do my Walmart shopping.   And, about half of the plastic give aways are the new oval type.  Sure wish I had a bunch of the old aluminum ones.  Wish someone could put me onto a large supply of the aluminums.

Done.

On the left is the film-can caliber hand-gonne; on the right is the golf-ball caliber one.

Touch hole is centered on the powder chamber.
