where is the spine on a deer
« Reply #30 on: June 04, 2005, 11:55:46 AM »
Last season our family took 17 Mule Deer or Blacktail bucks(all but three were Mule Deer) with calibers ranging from .240 Weatherby, .250 Savage up to .300 Weatherby and .338 Winchester Magnum and all were heart/lung shots.  All were one shot kills and the farthest we had to follow one was about 15 feet.  All had blood trails a blind person could follow.  Forget the trick shots(head, neck, spine, etc.) and a shoulder shot is not needed(should be reserved for dangerous game which deer don't qualify).  You put any good bullet into the heart/lung area on a deer and your going to be eating venison.  Lawdog
