BDL 700 30-06 with hinged magazine floorplate.  Can this be refitted with a detachable magazine?  If so, is it difficult to do.  Costly?  thanks

Very easy to do and not too expensive either.

All you need to do is replace the floor plate and trigger guard assembly with the one that accommodates the clip.

You can either use the manufactures components (kinda expensive), or there are aftermarket replacements.

The aftermarket one that comes to my mind is called : "Kwik-clip"

Just curious as to why you want a detachable mag?

Fisherman :D ,

Just bought the rifle about a month ago.  I wanted the 700-DM model but was told (at wallyworld) they were out and the model would no longer be available, so I bought the standard BDL.

I took the rifle deer/hog hunting for the first time yesterday here in Florida over a feeder.  I loaded the magazine while in a stand with the barrel pointing downward.  The first cartridge went in fine, but the second slid right off the first and down into the chamber, probably my fault but i did not like the difficulty trying to load the magazine in that position, and it would be much worse with gloves on.

After I finished hunting, I released the magazine and the cartridges fell everywhere.  The floorplate flopped all over the place and was difficult to reseat with ease in the minimal light conditions.  Seemed very cheap made.  Naturally, i had a little trouble finding the cartridges that had fallen out of the stand and into the grass.

This type magazine may be just mine for many folks, but I didn't find it to be very convenient in typical hunting conditions; in the stand, in the dark, etc.

Just to update my post on replacing the drop plate magazine in the BDL 700.  :D

I received the Kwik Klip from Cabela's in about 5 working days or so.  The kit included the trigger guard and one 4-round clip and 5 shims.  Total cost including shipping was around $80.  Installation was a snap.  I did have to sand the radius (but not the side-walls) of all four interior surfaces of the stock due to the heavy coating of poly.   The instructions said the shims may or may not be needed, mine did require all 5 shims.  Total install time including sanding and messin' with the shims was about 45 minutes.

I really like the ease, speed, and safety enhancements provided by the detach mag.  I recommend the Kwik Klip and plan on buying another.

Glad to hear you've had luck with the Kwik Clip. I guess I can see where you're coming from wanting a detachable mag (I don't have a floorplate or mag, I'm stuck with a built in magazine  . But that's the ADL line, so...). You have the convience of unloading the gun all at once yet also in the conviency of loading it again quickly if need be. Hope you like the choice and have a good season!  :D
