Getting ready for opening day???
« on: January 03, 2005, 02:07:12 AM »
Here we sit with the ice on debating wether to digout the ice fishing stuff and put up with the cold weather.  Don't let the post holiday blues kick in because there is still work to do we can oil up and change line on our rod setups.  Straighten out of messy tackleboxes.  And I have started shopping already for new stuff with those giftcards from Christmas too.  Heck I'm already just about ready for opening day!!!!!!  But I' still working on setting up a fly fishing bench/area for fly tying and storage too.  I still plan on hunting for that trophy bass every morning but i plan on switching to fly fishing during the day now too.(sometimes)  Now don't forget and don't wait too long we are getting closer to opening day its about 15 weeks away now!!!!!  Well a few snowstorms too!!!!  Ok I just may get out and poke some holes in the ice too!!!!                                                            BigBill

Now for you shore fisherman like me who mainly fish those smaller places from shore now is the time to look for new ways to get into those smaller places.  I have one spot that is an inlet that has what it looks like to be PIKE in the pools working over the baitfish but its surrounded by tight/thick woods but now with the leaves off its time to figure a way into there!!!!!!  Thats my point its time to look for new ways into our old haunts that we fish all the time.

What the heck is an "opening day" as it relates to fishing BigBill? Down here in Bama the fishing season never closes. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year except in leap years and then ya get an extra day.

:D Same here, fish year round, except during deer season Which ended yesterday.  The weather has been accommodating too.  We had a week of cold days (20s) over Christmas, but it's back up to 74 again today. The few cold days has not cooled the water to any large degree, so the fishing is still fairly good.  Several buddys who don't hunt have taken good limits of crappie out of several local lakes.  I'll be gearing up for my annual trip to Lake Fork the end of the month.  Maybe we can find a really big one this year.

Yep! if an y"all gets the chance we gots fishing year round down here, come on down and join us.

Only problem, I checked my boat last week before the cold weather, flipped the tarp back and whoa, who's dead cats in my boat?   Two of the darn things.  I've got some prep work on the old Skeeter before she goes to the lake again.  I just hope I don't have to replace the carpet.

Opening day is when the season starts for trout fishing other than that its open all year long but you can't keep the fish(bass or trout/any fish) I guess its because of the population here and greedy people too who take everything so they try to control it.  Its 24 degrees right now?? And its tough to be topwater bass fishing??(ICE) :D      kidding                   BigBill

Absolutely.  And it’s hard to cast when you keep sticking your thumb under your armpit to keep it from getting broke off.     Besides it’s more fun getting the equipment into shape than watching the snow melt.  Lawdog
