Barrel Program - 17M2
« on: January 03, 2005, 07:24:15 AM »
Hi folks.

May I tap your collective knowledge?

I'm planning on sending my Sportster receiver in to be fitted with a 17M2 Barrel  :-D.

I called H&R this morning but noone's home?  :?

Does anyone know:

1) the 17M2 barrel part #?
2) availability?
3) is it a Bull bbl?
4) when they'll be answering the phone again?

I have the 17 HMR and I love it...I'd like the 17M2 barrel to complete the set. I know that I can get the complete gun for $135 + tax, but I don't want another receiver. It's worth the $90 to me to have both barrels...It's just for plinking fun and one of the reasons that I like these inexpensive products.

Thx.

Tom, it's actually $98, IIRC....the local marts had the Sportsters on sale for $110 last week, FWIW...I'd check with Walmart before I bought one from H&R. H&R is closed down for the holidays and will be opening soon. You can email em at hr1871@hr1871.com  to save some time and money getting their answering service. Yes, it is a bull barrel.

I just checked the Walmart special order catalog, they don't show the 17M2 or the 17hmr, but I know they sell em, probably as regular stock, so they don't list em in the catalog..... the Sportster 22Lr sells for $104, I would expect the .17s sell for the same. They also don't list the 917V but I've seen them in the store, so go figure....

Thanks for the response, QDT.

I've been hiting our local Wally Worlds, Sports Authoritys and Dicks with no luck for in-stock and no brains for customer service. Up here in the miserably 'Blue' state of CT its tough to find what you want.

I could order through my favorite dealer but that's the $135+tax. Still cheap and probably the cost effective way to go, but I really don't want the extra receiver.

I'll email H&R and see what they say.

No matter what, its always fun to be shopping for a new gun :-D ...especially when you really don't NEED one

Is the 917V the Marlin?

If so, I saw one in my local gun shop. It looked ok...it was a little pricier though.

Sorry, I was gonna go back and correct that to Marlin 917V, but didn't. They are a bit more expensive at $150-$180, closer to $180 most often. I have a 917V and a 917VS(stainless/laminated), both are great shooters, but no better than a Sportster.
