Encore stlye stock on a Handi??
« on: January 04, 2005, 06:18:33 AM »
Anybody make an Encore stlye or ambidextrious thumbhole stlye stock for these little handi rifles?
I was thinking of buying an Encore, but the more I mess with my son's Handi in .243 the more I'm thinking of customizing one of these for myself!!
Thx,
R

You might try Gunstocks Inc. They are a sponser here and make great stocks at a reasonable price. Look for their banner at the top of the page or do a search for "gunstocks" in the H&R centerfire section....<><....

Gunstocks Inc only shows a right hand thumbhole on their web site, but give em a call, they may have them as a new item.

Choate Machine has a stock of sorts that may work for you.

Hey guys...thx for the responses. The stinger stock looks a bit bulky and the choate, although probably effective, looks too military it might be the ticket though. I haven't seen the survivor, is it on the h&r website?
Thx again,

I was at the range the other morning, and the only other guy shooting in the pouring rain(we have a covered firing line, though) was a young guy with the Nef 243 and the Survivor stock.  He also had a bipod mounted on the forend and a handmade muzzle brake on the barrel.  Young guy studying to be a machinist...one of his first projects was the brake.  Had some sort of Mildot Scope on it about the size of the bloody rifle.  Shot nice, though.  Not my cup of tea, but it was definitely functional.

I have a TC carbine in 7x30.  I dearly love the rifle and what it will do, but I find the stock shape a pain to carry in the woods.  Probably would be fine if you hunted from a stand all the time.  I find the straight stock of the handi (same with a lever action) to be much easier on the wrist to carry for a day in the woods.  44 Man
