I have a 209x50 and it shoots great. i did some horse swapping, and got 2 tc factory barrels,24" blued with factory sights. One is a 243, and the other is a 280. 280 is brand new in the box, and the 243 had about 30 rounds through it. I dont know alot about these two calibers, any input would help. and what kind of accuracy can i expect out of factory barrels in these calibers. Should i look into starting to reload or are there a good variety of factory loads for these calibers. Thanks for any input.

The claim to fame for the 280 is that it supposedly bridges the gap between the 270 Win and the .30-06.  You can use heavier bullets than the 270 but still get some more velocity than the 06.

The 243 is another "staple" in the deer woods.  Its a necked down .308.  Its claim to fame is it can do double duty as a light bullet shooter for varmints but still have heavy enough bullets for deer.  Many consider it a great beginner gun for kids and hunting, but the truth is that it is considered a minimum for deer and is better off in the hands of someone willing to practice with it (like evryone should with ANY round they intend to hunt with) so you can make good hits all the time.

The sights on the factory barrels are a real disappointment...  I like what's on the 209x50, but obviously TC expects you to put a scope on the other barrels.

No truer words were ever spoken.  I don't know how some folks can dust off their gun and go into the woods without any practice.  It is even more important with marginal rounds.

TC .243 Barrel

I have a .243 TC barrel that shoots great, 4 shots with reloads all touching. I reload with 41gr. IMR 4350 and 100gr. sierra boatails. Just got the barrel in july and shot a nice 4 point buck thanksgiving day. I think you will enjoy the barrel. I removed the rear site and mounted a 6-18 power nikon buckmaster scope and am very happy with the combo.

My .280 barrel has been a bit of a challenge.

With a Virgin Valley hanger bar and with with loads it likes it will give groups just under 1.5" at 100 yards.

I'm hopeful of getting that down a bit.

Bob C,

Have you tried Fed 210 match primers and R22 with a 140gr Accubond?  It was a real winner for my 280. and 280 AIs.
