I bought a new Wood Duck call in October, it was a Haydel's "W-81 Wood Duck". This call is sooooo loud that I've had coyotes answer back as if it were a coyote howler. No Wood Duck in his right mind would come to this call. I've blown this call at flying Woodies and they fly out of there like the devil was chasing them. I called Haydel's and made a little fuss, they said if I returned the call they would replace it, so I did. The second call is LOUDER than the first one.

Last week I was in Bossier City, LA at the Bass Pros Shop and saw Haydel's new Wood Duck call, the "CW-03 Wood Duck Compensator" so I thought I'd try it....... When will I learn?
The package says "Every squeal and whine a Wood Duck makes can be created on this new call"...... WRONG.
This new call has a rubber end-cap that muffles the sound so much that it sounds like someone blowing a call without the reed.

If you're looking for a new Wood Duck call - these two are not it!

I FOUND A GOOD ONE... I was in a local sporting goods store the other day and saw another Wood Duck call in another brand, it was cheap enough so I thought I'd try it. This call is a "Duck Commander WD-1"
This call sounds great, right on the money. You can make the very soft squeals and whines of Wood Duck on the water, or blow louder and make the sound of a flying Woodie.
This call is deadly. The very first morning I used it I killed my two Wood Duck limit in the first 30 minutes. I called in two small bunches, and took one from each group.
If you're looking for a great Wood Duck call, get the Duck Commander WD-1.
It's the best $13 I've spent so far....

Mr. Brigman.Next time your in Bossier why dont you bring your calls by the shop. This call has been on the market since 1981 and in 24 years we have recieved VERY FEW complaints! While the saying goes you cant please 100% of the people 100% of the time we sure try! Thanks

The DR85 is the best call made for the money. I have been through three the last few years and keep buying them. I guess I need to be a little more careful, I break them too often.

I guess that is good for Mr. Haydel, I have to buy more. :-D

Thanks for the help, Rod. If there is a special trick to using these calls I would be very interested in learning how. I'm in La. every few weeks and would enjoy visiting your shop for some calling lessons. Could you post direction to your shop from I-20?

Take I-20 to I-220 and exit Shed Rd. head west for 1/4 mile cross the tracks and turn left into the Ruben White Industrial Park. We are down about a 1/4 on the right. See you soon!
