first shoots with the handi
« on: January 04, 2005, 02:44:23 PM »
Went out between the rain showers Sunday to site in the hornet with 40 grn v-max. Did the quick bore site like MST Ret said and was off only 3 inches at 50 yards. Quickdtoo said the Simmons ATV scope was good and it is very clear smooth to change settings. Best group was .675 inch not to bad with the weather and using a B&B workmate for a shooting bench. The trigger was very hard to pull no way to tell how many pounds but it is to much. Now it is time to do a trigger job which should help out some. Rain the next three days so I have time to tinker a while.

Good report, thanks for sharing!  :D  Speaking of the Simmons ATV, I found another source for em if anyone is looking, less than $75 shipped. I ordered another and one of their Whitetail Expeditions in 1.5-6x32, also.

Actually Brett I am dreaming of it to replace an old Weaver 1.4-4.5 that sits on my early (1962?) Marlin 336SC in .35 Remington. It's a great combo and has quite a few deer to it's credit but the scope fogs up now and has done so for several years. It has however been several years since the old favorite Marlin in .35 has gotten the call for hunting season. That dosen't mean it should not be ready though. I was hoping to shoot that 30-30 with iron sights, thanks to Marv....<><....

Is that Whitetail Expedition a pretty decent scope? I have heard that the higher end Simmons are good, but have never taken the chance.

The Whitetail Expeditions are excellent scopes, I have had a 4-12x42 for a while and thought it was a very bright, clear optic with good resolution, tracking and repeatability. The only reason I sold it was I wanted more power!
