Frank DeHaas has a number of books depending on what you are interested in concerning single shots. His books are:
Single Shot Rifles and Actions.
More Single Shot Rifles and Actions.
Mr. Single Shot's Gunsmithing-Idea Book.
A Potpourri of Single Shot Rifles and Actions.
Mr. Single Shot's Cartridge Handbook.
Mr. Single Shot's Book of Rifle Plans.
James Grant also put out two really great books on single shot rifles:
Single Shot Rifles.
Still More Single Shot Rifles.
There are also books written specific to the models. If you like Ballards, then John Dutcher's book, Ballard The Great American Single Shot Rifle, is one of the finest books written on the subject. (Heck, even if you don't prefer Ballards, you will after you read that book!)
Campbell's book on Winchester single shot rifles is also a great book, full of info on the model 1885 High Wall, and Low Wall.
A couple of small paperback books, with great info from the past are: Schuetzen Rifles History and Loadings, by Gerald O. Kelvar, and The Schuetzen Rifle, by Major Ned Roberts, edited by Gerald O. Kelvar. One of the all time greats: The Breech-Loading Single Shot Rifle, by Maj. Ned Roberts, and Kenneth L. Waters, is a must for the single shot enthusiast!
In the way of more recently written books, are Charlie Dell's book, The Modern Schuetzen Rifle, and Alte Scheiben-waffen, by Tom Rowe, a history of German target arms.
For fun reading on one of the greatest single shot barrel makers, read The Story of Pope's Barrels, by Ray Smith, and JM Pyne Stories & other selected writings, by the late humorist and Pope's friend, Lucian Cary, a truly great writer of the early 1900's.
I've got a lot more in my library, but this is a good start, and will hook you, if you aren't already hooked!
