During loading, my pre 64 94 Winchester will spit back out cartridges unless you hold them in with your finger and let the loading gate snap closed.   What's behind this behavior and how hard is it to fix?  Everything works ok during cycling and firing.

Clodbuster - that's the way Winchester 94s work.  There's nothing wrong with the rifle.  I have 5 94s and they all do the same thing.  When you get the first one into the magazine and the loading gate closes, you actually push the first one farther into the mag tube when you begin to insert the 2nd round.  When I'm in the field and wearing gloves and want to load my 94, I push the first round in just far enough to stay in the loading gate and don't have to depress the gate for the 2nd and following rounds.  This is just the way they work.  HTH.  Mikey.
