Newbie Question
« on: January 06, 2005, 09:18:13 AM »
I am looking at purchasing my first Glock. I am thinking about the G23. Do all Glocks come with the light accessery groove in them? How managable is the recoil of the 23 as opposed to the full size 40 cal. ?

I just bought a Glock 23 a few months ago.  I also wondered about recoil as I was not able to shoot one before ordering it.  It really is a piece of cake to shoot.  I have been shooting 165 gn factory loads and would have no problem shooting all day without problems.  And I am not big on recoil so if it was too much it would be up for sale.

First the 23 does come with the light accessory grove. As far as I know the 27 is the only one that does not.

Recoil difference is almost non-noticeable between the two units - 23/22. You will get a little more rise with the 23 because of the shorter barrel. But that is about it. The 22 will give you a long sight radius which could help. If you can - try shooting one of each. I have all three - 27 - 23 - 22. Amazing as it might sound - I like the 27 the very best of all. Mine are my work tools. I carry the 27 off duty - 23 while in plain clothing/on duty - 22 in uniform. The reason I would suggest you to shoot each one is the following: We had two officer that just totally failed to qualify with the Glock 23. I (firearms instructor/range master) worked my fanny off trying to get them qualified. On the last day of qualification - I took both weapons away from them - put the Glock 22 into their hands - and both qualified the first time through.   - Both have not failed to qualify from that time. I love the Glocks - they are one of the easiest weapon to train with and to shoot. If you have small hands - the Glock 23 may be better suited - but if your not worried about the size of the weapon - the Glock 22 is a great all around weapon.

I have a glock 19 and 23.  I must say that I love them both.  I enjoy shooting my G23.  The recoil is not bad at all.  I don't think you could go wrong with the G23.  Great weapon and great cal.
