I finally sent my frame to NEF for a .223 barrel. I found out that they can fit a Ultra barrel to my handi frame, and so I'm going that route. I like the longer heavy barrel. Sent it today DHL. Can't wait

Did you ask about the availablity of the new fluted heavy barrel??

According to the web site, the turn anround time is 6-8 weeks, and I didn't ask about the fluted barrel. This one shoould do just fine.

This is the first I've heard of the fluted barrel. Is it just available on the .223, or other caliber as well?

The fluted barrel is available on the new Ultra in .204 Ruger, .223 rem and .22-250 with the ugly stock. Here's the latest post with a pic at the link.

Thanks for enlightening me. You miss a few days, and your out of touch. MSP ret nailed it right on the head, Butt ugly. I wouldn't mind having that 22-250 barrel though. I was just over to Sports South, looking at their catalog, and came across a reference to a H+R Pinnacle shotgun, going for $800+. With all this high tech and high class, I may be left behind. Relegated to Braztech and Baikal rifles.

Heck I'd love to find a good source for the Baikal rifles. I'm itching for an extra 6.5x55 but neither NEF nor Rossi makes one.
