I hear ya on this WI calling. I am originally from Colorado and have done a lot of calling there as well as Wyoming. It is a totally different ballgame in the woods and valleys here. I have yet to call in a coyote in WI   So I am interested in what others have to say as well.

well i am from wisconsin, and i have predator called, and even managed to bag a fox this year.   coyotes are tough to get in.  be persistant.  sooner or later it will pan out.

hey frozentoes- where abouts in holmen are you at?  i am originally from there.  i grew up out towards shufflebines' orchard; toward mindoro.

I have two of the Calling all Coyote DVD's and he has much better luck than I ever had. He said about one in five stands will produce a coyote.
I do think all that open country helps. In Wisconsin they can circle around down wind and you would never see them.

myronman-I live right in town in Holmen.
That is the problem I am having here, it is too thick  . I am used to out West where I can see them coming from a long ways off. I did manage to call one in yesterday morning, but didn't get a clear shot. We had made a set and didn't see anything at first light. We then decided to go to the other side of the property and try again. While we were walking up a field road another landowner came driving up and asked what we were hunting. We told him coyotes and his eyes lit up. He gave us permission to hunt his property and told us to kill them all :P . Anyway this landowner told us where he has beeb seeing coyotes from his deer stand and told us to try there first. We used a fawn distress and this coyote responded. But, he was about 90 yards or so away, sneaking in, and then just disappeared :( . I call it a success because it was the first called coyote for me in WI.

I have made about 35 stands this year up till last week all I have called in was 4 Gray fox, a freind of mine has been trying to get me to come down to Mondovi area to call on his inlaws farm. We made the first stand at day light and didnt see anything, he told me that about 80 acres away up wind and over a big ridge was a pine tree plantation, so we went up to the top of the ridge and set up, he set on the edge of the pasture about 60Yds from the pines I went up wind from him about 50Yds on a l
logging trail, I could see the pines about 100Yds across a wooded gully, I made the first series on my critter call put it down next to me I looked left and slowly looked right when I looked left again here comes a yote out of the gully about 60Yds down the trail I pulled up my 221 CZ and let fly down he goes, I made a short series of yelps and here comes another one right when I was going to shoot my buddy shoots, this yote spins around and I missed, I go up to buddy and hes shaking his head the yote he miss ran passed him at 15Yds and he had scope on 8 power and couldnt find him in the scope till he was jumping into the pines, so keep trying sooner or later theyll come.   Good Luck Deathray
