I bought my first muzzleloader and hunted quite a bit during December with it. I seemed to alway pick the wrong spot and see the deer in "the other place" I thought about going to. Muzzleloader season here in Nebraska ended Dec. 31. My tag allows use of a ML or a rifle from Jan 1 thru Jan 9 in a late season. On Jan. 1 we had a small ice storm and I stayed home. On the 2nd, I set out with my .270 and brought along my muzzleloader to shoot it, preparing for cleaning. If I thought I could get away with carrying two guns I would have, but ...
So, I set up in one of the "usual places" and 40 minutes later shot a nice doe with the .270, ..., at about 40 yards! If only I'd kept the muzzleloader with me, I could have enjoyed that coveted first harvest using one.
These deer just don't play nice!
