Two short months ago, I did not own a TC gun but now I have 3 stainless Encore frames and a contender frame. The contender is a pistol in 30-30, two of the encore frames are saddled with rifle barrels (30-06 and 243). I have one frame let, which is registered as a pistol. I mainly hunt whitetail. What would be a good pistol choice for me to have for my other frame?

Any comments would be appreciated.

contender right :? ..........make it a 30-30Ackley Improved, and do a comparison between your 30-30 you have now. then come back n tell us which one ya like best. :wink:

...........if ya don't like that idea, a 14" 6tcu, or even a .223 would give you a varmint class caliber to target shoot or hunt with.
...........or a 22lr match barrel to plink, target shoot, and hunt small game.

If I understand correctly Kyle his "other" frame is an Encore frame.

If you handload, I feel that there is no better whitetail pistol cartridge than the 7MM BR. If you don't then I would go with the 7mm-08.

Defintely those are good choices, but I prefer the 7-30 waters for whitetail size game. However, if you do handload, I believe the brass is tough to come by.

You are right, my extra frame is an encore. I have heard a great deal of good things about the 7mm08 but little about the 7mm br. How do they compare?

I'll take a stab at your question as to how the 7MM BR compares to the 7MM-08 Harp. Basically you just have to ask yourself how far you intend to shoot these whitetails. The 7MM-08 will shoot farther and flatter than the 7MM BR at the expense of extra noise, powder, blast, and recoil.

I am an efficiency nut and like matching cartridges to the size of the animal and the ranges which I will be shooting.

I also like the 7mm-08, but do not pass up the 260 Rem. either. Both great cartridges for SP's between me and my kids we have taken a lot of game with these two cartridges--even two elk.

Looks to me like you need a varmint rifle. I would recomand the new .204 Ruger or the .17 Rem. Both are good through coyote size game. If you going to be shooting groundhog size game I would recomand the .17 AH. Mine shoots point blank, plus or minus 2 1/2 in., out to 290 yrds. and only burns 10.4 grns. of H-4227 doing it with the 19 gn. Calhoon bullet.
