Have been looking at the Remington VLS 700 in 204 some time as a target/varmit rig.  Was wondering what kind of groups everyone was getting and how you like the performance?
Thanks

I don't have one, but I did consider getting one.  Finally decided they were not much different than the fast 22's which are well proven and have a great selections of loads and bullets.  I have a 22-250 which is great, over 4100fps with 40 gr bullets and groups that are as good as you are.  If you want faster buy a Swift.  Now I am thinking of playing with one of .17's, but I still don't know what I would gain except for the fun of something different.  Fun is what it is all about isn't it?  Larry

The deciding factor for me going 204 was that with reloads it is expected to have 22-250 performance with a 223 cost.  Also there is the hope  that you can see the hit through the scope so you can self spot for pd's. Yes the 22 have a better bullet selection but sierra is planning on coming out with a 20 cal line this spring and berger has had them for a while.  But heck if someone does not try the new stuff we would still be shooting 22 hornets out of leverguns.

catfish,

I forgot to tell you, You can call James and tell him what you want and he will send you whatever you need, The 20 cal. bullets are 26 gr. just ask for the silver bullet and i will bet you don't get a coors beer. In my opinion the Calhoon bullets are hard to beat. I use them in  every thing from hornet to 22-250 in the 22s and 17 cal and 20 cal as well. If you went to his site and didn't see the 20 cals. you must have been going too fast.

Trotterlg,

You need to go there again and look again. If these arn't 36 gr 20 cal bullet i'm looking at you sure could fool me. They seem to work good in a 204, Like i told catfish call james and ask him if he makes 20 cal bullets.

Well I did find where he makes 30 and 36 grn. 20 cal bullets, but he sure makes it hard to find and he still doesn`t have them on his price list. I`ve had mixed results with his bullets. With the guns I`ve tried them in they are eather tack drivers or shoot like crap. I`ve yet to find a gun that shot just so so with them. I`ll have to check my supply of .17 cal. bullets to see what I need there and get another order in to Fred, I may even try some of his .22 cal. bullet while I`m at it.

Catfish,

I have had the same luck with the calhoon bullets, That being said, what i would do was to keep changing the loads untill i got the results i was looking for, But with a little time i got all my guns warking good. My 17 rem is a real tack driver with the calhoon bullets. works good on yotes never a pass through and haven't had any run off. I'm pretty picky about my loads, If they arn't right i can them right away. Been this way for 56 years and don't want to start being slack now. Have a good day catfish.

Trotterlg, No apology necessary, It is hard to find the 20 cal on his web site. Have a good day
