One of my buddies let me barrow a little .22 pistol for trapping. nighter one of us Know what kind of pistol it is. hopefully after I describe it someone can tell me what kind it is.

It say on the grip in capitol letters RG and it's circled.

On the receiver it say MODEL RG 14, .22 LR cal., RG IND. MIAMI FL.

It has probally a 3 inch barrel

It's double action.

You have to unscrew a pin to get the cylinder to roll out. The cylinder is an arm so it is always attacted to the gun.

It has a 6 shot cylinder.

Does anyone know what kind of gun this is? And about how much would it be worth.

Well, first of all, a pistol is usually a semi-automatic hand gun and you've described a revolver. RG Industries was an importer and the guns they sold under the RG namebrand were made by a German manufacturer by the name of Rohm. These were discontinued in 1986 and are valued at around $100 new in the box. The arm that you describe that holds the cylinder is called a crane latch. These were made in 22 rim fire and 38 Special. They're not a very interesting piece but good enough to carry on a trap line. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help...Your right it isn't to interesting(kinda dull lookin) but it will make a good up close gun.

Antone else know anything about the REVOLVER?

There are a few RGs currently on GunsAmerica (under both "Pistols - German" and "R - Other"; .22s and .38s. Pretty homely looking double-action revolvers. Typically in the low-$100 range. One description notes that John Hinckley used an RG when he shot Reagan and Brady.

I guess that's why RG isn't around any longer. Sara Brady was really on a crusade after the assination attempt and they most likely didn't survive it.

You are right about the RG Mod 14 being the "poster gun" for Sara Brady (AKA Saturday Night Special). My first gun was a much better stablemate a single-action Single Six lookalike complete with an extra .22 Mag cylinder, I shot my first small game (with a revolver), a squirrel with it. Later it my gun dealing I got a Mod 14 in a trade along with a more disired weapon. I took it along with other guns to my range at the time and was surprised at its accuracy.... I even shot a few squirrels with it. In a round of gun trading it was also gone. The RG single action was stolen but I still have the .22 Mag cylinder some where in my gun room.

The smaller and cheaper RG's are derogitorily called "Roscoes" by the Law Enforcement community. They are the classic "Saturday Night Special", and many are lucky if they function.
However, like many makers, RG did have some good guns too. I once had the RG57 revolver in .357 Magnum, which looked and functioned well.
Plenty good enough for up close & personal, if need be.
They made a decent single-action "cowboy" revolver too.
