Georgia Coyotes
« on: January 09, 2005, 09:58:48 AM »
This deer season my hunting partner and myself shot 8 deer in the first week.  However, my partner lost two. He shot one doe that appeared to be limping when it came by my stand and then ran off.  He shot a nice 8 pointed that left a real good blood trail that we followed for about an hour but did not recover.  Knowing that we left two deer in the field ( Luck would have it we did not get another shot off this season) I think the coyotes moved into the area.   We were hunting mornings.  The last couple of days I went in the evening.  The last evening I heard a yelping from near by.  I also found several "dog" like turds in the area in different places.  So if we have coyotes here, what will be the best way to hunt them out.  I read the regulation and it states no eletronic call.  What calls would be good to try and bring them?  Also I hunt with a NEF handi in .243 which should be enough for coyotes.  Also the area is fairly wooded, but we have several shooting lane out about 100 yards.  Also I have not hunted coyotes before but would like to give it a try.
Everyone has a game plan, until they get punched in the mouth.

If you check the section on page 12 top right in the 04-05 Georgia  regulation book, coyotes have no closed season and may be hunted using electronic calls. You may try setting some traps around gut piles. I have read that coyotes are use to human sent around gut piles and easier to catch.

It is better to have it and not need it than it is to need it and not have it!!
