bullet to use....coyotes
« on: January 10, 2005, 03:33:24 AM »
am working on my 219 zipper..deer season went out this weekend..so i have squirrels and other things to occupy my ...but most of all coyotes..lots of them...
zipper is a super 14" contender....odd yes..(anybody work with this caliber...email me)...anyhow...got a 50gr hornady up to 2800fps out of it...great...am now working on loading 40gr vmaxes...hope to get to 3k...but probably will max out at 2950fps...still not bad..is like a 222 rem...if i made cases out of 375 win brass..it would be 223 +..but the 25-35 cases will not handle the pressures...so...
should i work with the vmaxes for coyotes...or load up a batch of 50gr...or pursue the 55gr loads...i think this round will do well with 55 and 60gr bullets...bigger case than the 222 or 223 and slower powders should equal either of them...we shall see.. no matter all are within 100fps of each other right now...so..at 200yds or less..nobody really knows the difference...
so...which bullet should i use for coyotes this year...50gr hornady, 40 gr vmax or a 55 gr speer....decisions decisions..no matter...i am going to go coyote hunting this weekend...since i do have my hornet loaded and ready...shots will be under 100 yds..so it should be up to the task...
