A few years ago I was listening to my CB radio and overheard two guys talking about what load one was carrying. He was driving one of those trucks that go around selling fish to the locals to stock their ponds. He was running down his list when I heard him say he was carrying some "Sabre tooth catfish". I thought he was joking as did the other fella. He proceeded to say that if the guy would meet him and put his hand in the tank for one minute, he would give him $100 for each finger he had left.
This fish( if it exists) was genetically altered to clean out the unwanted fish in any given pond. It was a cross between a catfish and a pirahnna.
It also was to only live for five years and then die out, without reproducing.
This was before Jurassic Park came out!
Anybody ever heard of these things??   Just curious!

Sounds like a fish from hell, tell me, did the truck driver look like this   ?  I've heard of species of fish that looked something like it, but not really, they are also deep saltwater fish.  Genetically speaking, I dont believe this cross-breed is possible, they just dont have enough common characteristics, especially since a catfish has skin and a piranha has scales.  I could be wrong though.

I'm not sure if the driver took the offer. I was going the wrong direction and to far away to go see it for myself. The way the scientists are playing with genetics these days I wouldn't put anything past them.
That was the only time I have ever heard of such a thing.

It sounds to me like a hoax or joke  as the driver knowing that the other one would probably not take the time to stop for something so foolish. I may be wrong but it sounds pretty far fetched to me. Jim
