Speer 70gr and 22-250

Has anyone tried the speer 70gr spitzer in 22-250? I would like to give it a try but am worried the 1 in 14" wouldnt stabilize it. But then again speer put it in the reloading manual so its bound to do something desirable?

I think you will be dissapionted in the results, for a couple of reasons.  My 1 in 14 twist doesn't even like 60 grn. bullets.  I believe you would need something close to a 1 in 7 twist to stabilize a bullet that long.  There are some barrel twist calculators available on various sites.  I think I last saw one on one of the barrel manufactures sites.

Another thing to think about is seating depth.  You will have to seat that bullet pretty deep, and eat up some powder capacity doing it.

Still, it is fun to experiment! :-)

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I will be sticking with the 55gr speer hot-cor's.
