Are the 224 cal. 50gr. V-Max, and the 52gr. A-Max pretty much the same in construction and shape? I don't understand the exact difference (if any) between the two from Hornady's website, as they seem to use the same pic for both types. Thanks

Yes... there is a huge difference. The V-max is a very fragile varmint bullet, whereas the A-max is a match bullet, not designed to expand at all but rather to punch very small holes in paper.

OK, I did find some pics at Midway, and did see the actual difference. I see the boattail is the most striking feature; the angle is more obtuse than a standard boattail. It seems the shape of the bullet would offer a better measure for accuracy; would the 52gr. A-Max be properly stabilized in a 1:10" rifling? I'm not going to be hunting varmints or the like for a while; mostly a paper-puncher. Thanks HH for describing the difference in construction.

Yes, they should. I only use A-Max's in my .50 BMG, but they like a tight spiral. To tell you the truth, I found V-max's just as accurate as A-Max's in my .220 Swift out to about 300 yards. The V-Max's would be quite a bit more versitile than the match A-max's.
